TOP 6 TIPS FOR A SAFE BUNK BED EXPERIENCE FOR YOUR CHILDREN

Bunk beds are the perfect solution to ensure a fun bedtime for your children and, of course, a good night’s sleep. But safety can still be a concern with a bed of such height, which is why we are sharing the following 6 safety tips.

An expanding family demands the need for a more efficient sleeping arrangement…. Especially for children. Young siblings are always looking for fun …. even during bedtime. This is why bunk beds are a great option. But even though this is a fun option for your kids, some safety guidelines need to be considered. So read on and make your children’s bedtime as cozy and safe as possible:

DO NOT REMOVE THE GUARD RAIL:

Bunk beds come with guard rails for a reason. A lot of people remove it but we’d suggest you keep the guardrail. This is meant to prevent the occupant of the top bunk from falling off.

MAKE SURE YOUR CHILD DOESN’T MAKE THE TOP BUNK THEIR PLAY AREA:

Pretending to be a superhero, or pretending to sail a pirate ship or pilot a spaceship…. These are some of the fun, imaginary scenarios that your child may cook up on the top bunk. But it’s hard to tell when this fun scenario can turn dangerous. So tell your kids that both bunks are for sleeping only or, at most, reading.

MIND THE CEILING FANS:

Ceiling fan and a bunk bed are a bad mix. Just because the fan is in the centre of the room, doesn’t mean it’s any less hazardous. Just make sure curiosity doesn’t land your child in trouble. Placing the bunk beds at the farthest corner of the room is a good solution.

TOP BUNK IS FOR 6 YEARS AND ABOVE:

The most important safety tip you need to consider before your children take over the bunk bed is that no child under the age of 6 years old should be on the top bunk.

TEACH YOUR CHILDREN THAT THE LADDER ISN’T A PLAY THING:

The ladder is another safety concern associated with bunk beds. Too many children think of the ladder as just another play thing. To ensure that your children don’t end up with any injury, teach them that the ladder should be used only for getting on and off the bed.

KEEP NIGHT LIGHTS NEAR THE LADDER:

Getting up in the middle of the night for a glass of water or to use the bathroom is quite common for children. So keep a night light near the ladder, so that they can avoid any slip or fall while climbing down or up the bed.
